Rajaji National Park

Rajaji National Park is encompassing the Shivaliks, near the foothills of the Himalayas and represent the Shiwalik eco-system. Spreads in 820.20 Sq.Km.on both sides of river Ganges in three districts of Uttarakhand, Rajaji National Park is a very rich bio-diversity National park. In the year 1983, Rajaji Wildlife Sanctuary of Uttaranchal was merged with Motichur and Chilla wildlife sanctuaries and made into Rajaji National Park. The Park has been named after C. Rajagopalachari, a prominent leader and last Governor-General of independent India.

The Motichur and Rajaji sanctuaries are contiguous, and are separated from the Chilla Sanctuary to the south-east by the Ganges River and the Chilla River. Motichur and Rajaji wildlife sanctuaries lie to the north and south of the Siwalik Ridge and are dissected by many ravines carrying water which descend from the main ridge, becoming broad pebble/boulder filled streams in the plains. The picturesque beauty and rich biodiversity of the park is major attractions for both nature lovers as well as wildlife enthusiasts.

Rajaji is home to avian species which are found in forested foothills and in open grassland. It's location in a transition zone between temperate western Himalaya and central Himalaya enhances the species diversity and consequently the viewing prospects. More than 500 Elephants, 12 Tigers, 250 Panthers and good prey base including Spotted Deer, Sambhar, Wild Boar, Barking deer, Goral Two kinds of Bears Himalayan Black and Sloth, and over 400 bird species makes Rajaji National Park a perfect wild life and bird watching destination.

WHEN TO VISIT : November to March is the best time to visit Rajaji National Park when the climate is pleasant.

CLOTHING : Cotton or linen full-sleeve outfits which match with surroundings like dark green, muddy-brown and rocky-grey are the ideal clothing color. Avoid shiny or reflective clothes during park safari which may diverts or attracts wild animals & birds’ attention which may become cause them leaving the place.

How To Reach

By Bus

Rajaji National Park is well connected by motorable roads with different places. There are excellent bus services provided by private and State Road Transport Corporation, connecting Rajaji to other nearby cities.

By Train

The most convenient Rail-head Dehrdun is 26 km. away from Rajaji National Park. From the railway station, you can take a taxi or bus to reach Rajaji National Park.

By Air

Nearest airport is Jolly Grant, Dehradun is 16 km. away from Rajaji National Park. The airport is well connected by flights with different cities and places in India. From the airport, you can get a taxi or bus to reach Rajaji National Park.

OPENING OF PARK: Every Year Rajaji National Park remains open from 15th November to 15th June for visitors. Remaining time the park is close from for visitors.

ZONE IN THE PARK: Rajaji National Park divided into five different zones. They are:

  • Chilla
  • Motichur
  • Asharori
  • Ranipur
  • Missarpur Ghat


PERMIT : Permits obtain from the concerned park authority before you make entry to the Reserve. Tourists can obtain day visit permit at the respective entry gates.

ENTRY FEE

For Indian nationals is Rs.150 per person for a visit of about 3 hours.

For foreign national, the entry fee Rs.600 per person for a visit of about 3 hours.

SAFARI TIMING : Safari timings are indicative and may change any time, they may cancel in last minutes due to bad weather conditions, heavy rains, manpower etc., hence request you to contact Forest Department and then plan your day. The entry timings are within sunrise to sunset, two times a day.

JEEP SAFARI IN RAJAJI: Rajaji National Park is the perfect habitat of variety of animals and birds. Three hour open jeep safari will take you through an unspoiled wilderness area with some of the best sightings of wildlife Rajaji. The star attraction of the park is majestic tigers roaming inside their natural habitats.

Jeep Safaris at Rajaji National Park can be done in morning and afternoon Shift. The jeep can accommodate upto 6 people per safari. JEEP Safari at Rajaji National Park is a delight for adventure lovers and wildlife photographers. It explores especially those places, which are difficult to travel via any other mode of transportation.
