The name of this place is comes from the Lepcha word Mir-Yok, meaning ‘a place burnt by fire’. The climate of Mirik is pleasant for most part of the year.
Sumendu Lake with the boating facilities is the main attraction of Mirik. The artificial lake is surrounded with garden on one side and pine trees on the other side. The two viewpoints Deosi Dara and Rameetya Dara are near the lake gives a nice view of the snow capped Himalayan range and the valley around the region.
