DELHI - The Capital City of India has an excellent old town ambience in Old Delhi and modern in New Delhi. Situated in on the bank of River Yamuna Delhi has seen the rise and fall of many empires which have left behind a plethora of monuments that the grandeur and glory of bygone ages. The famous poet Mirza Galib, described Delhi as "The world is body and Delhi its soul".

There are a number of legends associated with the origin of the name Delhi. One is that it is derived from Dhillu or Dilu, a king who built a city at this location in 50 BC and named it after himself. Some historians believe that the name is derived from ‘Dilli’, a corruption of dehleez or dehali both terms meaning 'threshold' or 'gateway' and symbolic of the city as a gateway to the Gangetic Plain.

An array of historical sites including World Heritage Sites of Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and Qutub Minar rests amongst other several historical treasures in Delhi’s possession. Besides the usual tourist attractions you can also visit India Gate, Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, North and South Block, various museums, temples and memorials.

How To Reach

By Bus

Delhi is well connected with all the major cities in India. The three major bus stands in Delhi are Inter State Bus Terminus (ISBT) at Kashmiri Gate, Sarai Kale-Khan Bus Terminus and Anand Vihar Bus Terminus. Both the government and private transport providers provide frequent bus services to all the major cities.

By Train

Delhi is the headquarters of the Northern Railway and is a very well connected rail-head with all major cities and towns in India. The major five railway stations are New Delhi, Delhi Junction (Old Delhi), HazratNizamuddin, Anand Vihar and Sarai Rohilla.

By Air

Indira Gandhi International Airport and the domestic terminal is well connected with international and domestic flights, to all the major cities within and outside India. Almost all the major airlines have their flights operating from New Delhi. From the airport, you can get a taxi to reach your desire destination in the city.
