Mandu or Mandavgarh earlier known by the name of Shadiabad is one of the greatest treasures of Madhya Pradesh. It tribute to the love shared between the poet-prince Baz Bahadur and his beautiful consort, Rani Roopmati. The balladeers of Malwa still sing of their euphoric romance. Situated in Vindhya ranges at an altitude of 2,000 feet, Mandu, with its natural defenses, was originally the fort capital of the Parmar who ruled Malwa.
Indeed the pervading spirit of Mandu its rulers built exquisite palaces like the Jahaz and Hindola Mahals, ornamental canals, baths and pavilions, as graceful and refined as those times of peace and plenty. The place is home to an impressive array of architectural marvels and each of Mandu's structures is an architectural gem.
Mandu is home to some of India’s finest example of Afghan architecture and has its association with the legends of Prince Baz Bahadur and Singer Roopmati. The palaces, tombs, monuments and mosques, all within easy cycling distance of each other. There are also caves made out of rock with wall paintings and carvings on the ceiling.
