Mahabaleshwar means ‘God of Great Power’ is a hill station located in the Sahyadri range of the Western Ghats. Tranquil and beautiful natural surroundings make it a popular holiday resort and honeymoon spot. In the year 1829-30 the hill station came in to existence, when it was made the summer capital of the former Bombay presidency.

The famous Panchaganga Temple said to be the origin of River Krishna and four other rivers make this hill resort an important pilgrimage site for Hindus. All these rivers originate from the mouth of the legendary statue of a cow in the temple. These rivers are the Krishna, Koyna, Venna (Veni), Savitri and Gayatri.

Mahabaleshwar constitutes three villages – Malcolm Peth, Old ‘Kshetra’ Mahabaleshwar and some part of the Shindola village. The English first made severe change to this sleepy land and transformed it into a most sought after tourist destination in India. The hill resort offers a perfect holiday getaway with picturesque valleys, soaring peaks, magnificent springs, streams and waterfalls.
