Champaner is a UNESCO World Heritage site is situated on a 882 m high in the Girnar Hills. The town derives its name from Champaraja, founder of the town, a contemporary of King Vanraj Chavda who was considered to be one of the prominent kings of the Chavda Dynasty.
The entire landscape is scattered around with remains of fort walls, ruined tombs, gardens, arches, pillars and wells. It is a well preserved city with the temples of Jain and Hindu religions, apart from numerous ancient palaces and mosques. It shows a blend of Islamic and Hindu decoration styles, a unique style encouraged by Champaner's relative isolation.
