The headquarters of the Kangra district, Dharamshala is broadly divided into two parts; Upper and Lower Dharamshala. Covering a wide area in the form of twin settlement, lower Dharamsala is a busy commercial centre. While upper Dharamsala with the suburbs of Mcleodganj and Forsytheganj, retains a British flavor and colonial lifestyle.

Dharamshala offers some of the most picturesque views of the adjoining Kangra valley and the snow-clad Himalaya. With dense pine and deodar forests, numerous streams, cool healthy air, attractive surroundings and the nearby snowline, Dharamsala has everything for a perfect holiday.

Becoming the temporary headquarters of the Dalai Lama since 1960, it has been attracting seekers of spiritual enlightenment from all over the world. Dharamshala is the centre of the Tibetan exile world in India. Presence of Dalia Lama and the Tibetan population has made Dharamshala a popular destination for Indian and foreign tourists, including students studying Tibet.

How To Reach

By Bus

Dharamshala is connected by good motorable roads to all major places. There are excellent bus services provided by State Road Transport Corporation, connecting Dharamshala to other nearby cities.

By Train

Pathankot is the nearest railhead, connected with major cities in India. A narrow gauge train runs from Pathankot to Kangra at a distance of 94km. From here Dharamshala is 17 km by road.

By Air

The nearest airport is at Gaggal, about 13 kilometers away from Dharamshala. However, Chandigarh and Amritsar is the convenient airport connected by various airlines with different cities in India.
