Shimla

Shimla also known as Simla is former summer capital of the British in India are surrounded by dense forest and magnificent snow capped mountains. Enveloped by seven hills Shimla lies in the south-western ranges of the Himalaya at an average altitude of 2,397 meters above sea level. Shimla originated from 'Shyamali Devi', a descendant of the fearsome Goddess Kali. Shimla the capital city of Himachal Pradesh is bounded by Manali and Kullu in the north, Kinnaur in the east, the state of Uttarakhand in the south-east, and Solan and Sirmaur to the south.

Retains its colonial heritage, with grand old buildings in the city are preserved in their original Tudorbethan architecture. The easy accessibility, convenient shopping, day-excursions, museums and ice-skating in winter makes it India’s most popular hill station. Shimla acts as a hub for India's tourism sector.

Shimla is a lovely hill station with its Victorian structures, ancient temples, stone churches and the ever so busy Mall Road. The famous Mall Road offers one of the longest stretches of pedestrian shopping in the world. Lakkar Bazaar, a market extending off the ridge, is famous for souvenirs and crafts made of wood.

By Bus

Shimla is connected by good motorable roads to all major places. There are excellent bus services provided by State Road Transport Corporation, connecting Shimla to other nearby cities.

By Train

Shimla is connected by a narrow gauge railway line with Kalka (92 km) which in turn, is connected with major cities. Taxis and buses are easily available from Kalka to Shimla .

By Air

Jubber Hatti, 21 km from the city is the nearest domestic airport, which is connected by various airlines with Delhi and other cities of India. You can easily get taxis to reach the any destination in Shimla.
