The Princess of Hill Station Kodaikanal is located at 2,133 meter above sea level. Nestled between the Parappar and Gundar Valleys, the town is situated on a plateau above the southern escarpment of the upper Palani Hills. The word Kodaikanal is actually an amalgamation of two words: Kodai and Kanal means gift of the forest in local language. Kodaikanal is a charming hill station, stands amidst sylvan beauty on the southern crest of the upper Palani Hills near Madurai in Tamil Nadu.

The misty weather of the hills station mesmerizes any visitor throughout the year. Kodaikanal is the honeymoon destination in South India because of its scenic beauty and it has the attribute to leave any nature lover mesmerized by its charms. The dense forest with many varieties of trees, the huge rocks in the wilderness and the enchanting waterfalls, makes it a real gift for the tourists.

Besides being a famous tourist destination, the hill town is also known for eucalyptus oil, plums, homemade chocolates and pears. Apart from that Kodaikanal is also well known for the Kurinji flower which blooms once in 12 years in December and covers the valley in a beautiful sea of blue. Last time it bloomed in 2006 and next bloom is expected in 2018. The hill resort does not have much for shopping but still you can go for some woolen clothing in its Tibetan refugee bazaar, at a descent price.

Kodaikanal is connected by good motorable roads to all major places. There are excellent bus services provided by State Road Transport Corporation, connecting Kodaikanal to other nearby cities.

The nearest Railway station is Kodai road, which is about 80 km away from Kodaikanal. Coimbatore junction is the major rail head which is well connected to major cities in India.

By Air

Madurai is the nearest airport which is 120 km away from Kodaikanal. The airport is well connected to major cities of the country. Taxis are available from Madurai Airport to reach Kodaikanal.
