The picturesque seaside heritage town of Porbandar is dominated by the legacy of Mahatma Gandhi. The coastal town is located on the Saurashtra peninsula, on the Arabian Sea. It was a famous trade centre inhabited by rich merchants and traders from Africa and the Gulf in the beginning of the Christian era. The picturesque coastal setting, lovely mangroves abounding in avian population and carefree days go a long way in making Porbandar an enticing destination.
The beautiful city is well planned and has numerous stone buildings with ashlars masonry and carved with rich artistic designs. Kirti Mandir, a three storied house is the memorial temple built in memory of Mahatma Gandhi and Kastuba Gandhi is one of the prime attractions of the town.
