Gulmarg originally known as Gaurimarg was a favorite resort of the Hindu Kings of Kashmir. Yousuf Shah Chak changed its name to Gulmarg, meaning 'meadow of flowers'. British discovered the hill resort of Gulmarg in 1927 during their colonial rule in India. Standing at 2730 meters, Gulmarg is situated at an hour and half drive from Srinagar. The road side is interspersed with lines of poplar, wild flowers and idyllic hamlets.
The immense beauty and adventure activities make Gulmarg much more than a hill resort. As the destination, it is known as heartland of winter sports in India. The slopes of Gulmarg make it Asia’s only heli-skiing resort. The Gulmarg Ski Resort offers smooth slopes to both amateurs and skiing professionals. In summer Gulmarg attracts outdoor sports, with its world class golfing, trekking, mountain biking, horse riding, water skiing, and fishing. Jammu is the closest railway station from Gulmarg. Several trains from all parts of this country arrive at this station. From the railway station you can take a bus or taxi to reach Gulmarg.
Srinagar is the nearest airport at a distance of 59 km from Gulmarg and connected to all the major airports in India. From the airport, you can take a taxi to reach Gulmarg.
