Ayodhya the birth place of Lord Rama the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu is situated on the bank of the River Saryu. The Atharvaveda Ayodhya described as “a city built by Gods and being prosperous as paradise itself”. The name Ayodhya comes from the name of King Ayodh, the fore father of Lord Rama. During ancient times Ayodhya was known as Kaushaldesa was founded by Manu, the law-giver of the Hindu. The city has gained reputation as a great centre of learning and enlightenment under the glorious rule of the Mauryans and Guptas.

Today Ayodhya is one of the major pilgrimage centers for Hindus. Apart from that it has also a great significance for the Buddhist and Jain scholars. According to Jain tradition, five Tirthankaras were born at Ayodhya, including Adinath (Rishabhadeva) the 1st Tirthankar. The imposing temples, sprawling ghats, mystic Kunds and evergreen gardens apart from the usual color and fanfare associated with this religious place.

Ayodhya’s culture is an example of the brotherhood of Hindus and Muslims. Hanumanghari Temple, a very famous temple dedicated to Lord Hanuman, was built by the Nawab of Awadh. By Bus

Ayodhya is connected by good motorable roads to all major places. There are excellent bus services provided by State Road Transport Corporation, connecting Ayodhya to other nearby cities.

By Train

Ayodhya Railway Station is well linked to other rail heads to most of the cities in India. Taxis and buses are easily available from outside of the railway station to explore the holy town of Ayodhya.

By Air

The nearest airport is at a distance of 147 km away from city heart and is at Lucknow. Lucknow airport is well connected by domestic flights to all major airports in India. You can easily get taxis from the airport to reach the holy town of Ayodhya.
